Each tattoo starts clear, then develops over 24–48 hours into highly realistic dark blue/black ink in your chosen design. Lasting far longer than temporary tattoos, HeyTats tattoos stay on your skin for up to 2 weeks (or more) and gradually fade as your skin regenerates naturally. They aren't designed to replace real tattoos—HeyTats tattoos are for those who love changing things up and being creative with designs or placements, those who can't get permanent tattoos for any reason, or even as a trial before getting a real tattoo.

No. We use natural plant-based ink that develops in one signature shade: deep blue-black. That's the natural reaction between genipin and your skin proteins—it's what makes it look realistic and last longer.

HeyTats tattoos have a shelf life of 9 months.

Store them in a cool and dry area. Don't keep them in direct sunlight or high temperature conditions—that'll reduce the quality of the ink.

• Shave the area (even light hair causes gaps)
• Use the primer wipe we send you. Wipe the full area and let it dry. Removes oils, improves grip.

Step 4: Peel off the plastic and protective film

Step 5: Position and place the tattoo

• Keep the paper slightly lifted so it doesn't stick too early
• Avoid creases. If it wrinkles, lift and reposition before wetting.

Step 6: Apply water evenly

• Use the damp cloth and press firmly on the backing
• Keep steady pressure. Work top to bottom in overlapping sections.
• Make sure every part gets equal attention. Tattoos fail when some areas stay too dry.

Step 7: Check the backing before peeling. It should look fully saturated and slightly soft. If it's still stiff, keep pressing.

Step 8: Peel the backing off slowly

• Peel from one corner
• If any part lifts or sticks, stop. Press again and wait, then continue.

Step 9: First 6-8 hours (this matters)

• Keep it dry
• Avoid heavy sweating
• Don't scrub or scratch it

Step 10: Aftercare (next 24-48 hours)

• Don't moisturise while it's developing
• Avoid scrubbing in the shower
• Pat dry, don't rub
• No exfoliating products on the area

Step 4: When you take the sleeve out of the box, roll it the other way to straighten it out.

Step 5: Get another person to help you. A second person makes a huge difference:

• They can hold tension on the paper
• Press evenly across the whole design
• Stop it shifting while you wet it

Step 6: Remove the sleeve from plastic and peel the clear protective film off

Step 7: Position and wrap the sleeve smoothly

• Keep the paper slightly lifted as you wrap so it doesn't stick too early
• Smooth from the centre outward
• Put your arm on a table to keep it flat and rigid
• Avoid creases. If it wrinkles, lift gently and reposition before wetting.

Step 8: Apply water evenly

• Use a damp cloth and press firmly on the backing
• Keep steady pressure across each section. Work top to bottom in overlapping sections.
• Make sure every part gets equal attention. Sleeves fail when some areas stay too dry.

Step 9: Check the backing before you peel. It should look fully saturated and slightly softened. If it still feels stiff in spots, keep pressing.

Step 10: Peel the backing off slowly

• Peel from one corner slowly
• If any part is lifting or sticking to the paper, stop immediately. Press that area again with the damp cloth, wait a little longer, then continue.

Extra tips for sleeves specifically

• Hold the damp cloth in place longer than you think—especially over detailed areas and edges.
• Wrinkles happen most on inner elbow and wrist areas. Straighten your arm on a flat surface when applying to reduce creasing.
• Patchy spots? Don't panic. Let it fully develop first. Some tattoos darken over 24-72 hours depending on your skin.

DON'TS ❌

• Don't apply to dirty or wet skin
• Don't scrub it for 24 hours after applying
• Don't swim or sauna within 24 hours
• Don't use exfoliating scrubs on it
• Don't pick or peel it
• Don't expose it to intense heat right after applying
• Don't apply body scrubs or rough lotions on the area

You don't have to. It fades naturally in 1–2 weeks as your skin regenerates. That's the whole point, no removal stress.

But if you want it gone faster, exfoliate. Use a body scrub, loofah, or shower brush on the area daily.

Swim in chlorine or saltwater—that speeds it up. You can get it off in 3–4 days if you're aggressive.

Once it's gone, your skin looks completely normal. No marks, no scars, nothing. Just your regular skin. And that's why this is better than permanent ink—you're never stuck explaining a decision you made years ago.

Shave it first. Clean shave. Then wash and dry the area completely. Apply the tattoo.

Body hair gets in the way and makes the tattoo look patchy as the ink do not reach the skin.

Avoid friction. Don't constantly rub it. Skip body scrubs on that area. Don't swim in chlorine or saltwater if you can help it. Keep your skin hydrated after 48 hours. Avoid sweating heavily the first 24 hours. High-friction areas (hands, joints) fade faster anyway—that's normal.

Yes. Plant-based ink, halal-certified, no animal products. The entire process follows Islamic standards. You're not putting anything haram on your skin.

No. Similar to henna, HeyTats does not block or create a layer that is impermeable. It absorbs into the first layer of your skin. Water still reaches your skin during wudu and ghusl. That's why it works perfectly with Islamic practice. You can wash before and after applying. No issues.

HeyTats is temporary—it fades naturally in 1–2 weeks. It doesn't create a permanent change to your body. It doesn't block water during wudu or ghusl. Islamic jurisprudence recognizes this difference. When something is temporary and doesn't prevent religious practice, it falls under permissible (halal) category, similar to henna. You're expressing yourself without making a permanent alteration or interfering with your obligations.
